FAQ
How does a starlight headliners work?
End-glow fiber optic strands receive light from illuminators on one end and transmit the light on the opposite end of the cable (star side). The star side of the fibers is poked through the ceiling material and orientated in a random fashion. Constellations and shooting stars can be incorporated.
What are fiber optics?
Fiber optics are typically composed from PET or plastic. All fiber optics sold on our site is made of plastic. Our fiber optics come End glow (Starlight).
What are illuminators?
Illuminators provide the light for end glow or side glow fiber optics. Illuminators can be LED, Halogen, or Metal Halide. Illuminators can produce a colored/white light, twinkle or steady, and can be wirelessly remote controlled.
Are the fiber optics permanently installed?
This depends on the installation method. If running fibers directly through the headliner material then once removed small wholes will need to be patched and headliner will need to be re-wrapped with new headliner material.
Can you see the fibers during the day or when the room lights are on?
It depends on the headliner color, size of fiber, interior lighting, and fiber illumination. The darker the ceiling the easier they are to see. The less direct sunlight the brighter the fibers will appear.
Can my headliner be wrapped once fiber optics are installed?
It is recommended that you wrap your headliner (if needed) prior to any fiber optic cable installation. Once they are installed headliner material will cover the ends of the cable preventing any light from showing.
What do I use to cut the fiber optics?
Sharp scissors work very well as do tin snips.
How long will the lights last?
Since the fibers are never heated to transmit light they will not "burn out." They receive light on one end and it lights up the opposite end of the cable. The light source contains LED bulb. LED units are cool burning, and last anywhere from 30,000 -50,000 hours. The bulbs cannot be replaced.
How safe are fiber optics?
Fiber optics are extremely safe since the just transmit light and do not carry electricity. Adequate ventilation is required for most illuminators. Just don't install them in a small box or pack insulation directly against them.
What is the warranty on parts?
All of our Starlight Headliner illuminators come with a 1 year warranty. This warranty does not include damages to any Illuminator that are caused by the customer.
How are payments made?
Payments are due at the time of the order online. All major credit cards and PayPal are accepted.
